After writing haiku for 3 years, I switched styles and began to write textlings -- also known as short attention span stories. A hard copy version can be purchased here, and an updated digital version can be purchased here.
her life began to tear at the
seams and so much beautiful
light began to flood in and she
realized she liked things better
this way
she faithfully conjugated all
the dying language's verbs as
that had been its last wish
the kernel had been meditating
for years but still hadn't
managed to pop
no matter how she held the
conch shell to her ear it never
dropped calls and she was
delighted by its quality design
she wore a leotard under her
work clothes as she never
knew when a project status
meeting might require an
interpretive dance
had the sponge known it
would spend the rest of its life
cleaning up after others it
would have stayed at the
bottom of the sea
of all the possible mantras he
decided that "cannonball"
suited his personality best and
gave him the most power
throughout the day
an unfamiliar reflection
followed her from one surface
to another and she realized it
was who she was becoming
and she was okay with that
the goldfish wished that her
rich emotional life was less
rich and less emotional as it
was really too much drama for
one bowl
after a trial separation the
princess and the pea moved
back in together as they
missed being uncomfortable
together
the world was turning out to
be his clam and he wasn't
terribly happy about the mix-up
the leprechaun was exhausted
and constantly on the move as
GPS made it that much easier
for others to find the end of
his rainbow
the sky warned the cloud to
stop making faces like that
because the humans might
notice and then there'd be a
pilgrimage with lots of noise
every time he lost his temper a
new one would grow back like
some stubby salamander limb
if that Silicon Valley thing
didn't work out Sally was
moving to the seashore to sell
seashells, salt water taffy,
souvenirs, and bait
